Hear ye! Hear ye! Citizens of Boston, unite to oppose the Tax on Tea!

Reenactors Needed!

Old South Meeting House, Boston National Historical Park and the Old South Tea Party Players invite you to help celebrate the Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, and to recreate the famous protest meeting held at Old South that led to the dumping of the infamous tea into Boston Harbor.

We are seeking the participation of 18th Century reenactors to portray the “Citizens of Boston” who in 1773 rose in protest to oppose the tax on tea levied without their consent by Parliament, and, when their appeals went unheard, dumped the offending cargo into Boston Harbor.

Boston Tea Party Reenactor Basic Guidelines

As a volunteer reenactor helping with the Annual Boston Tea Party Reenactment, you will help to make history come alive for visitors from all over the world. All reenactors must observe the following guidelines:

  1. Seating is limited inside Old South Meeting House for this event. You must pre-register to ensure entrance. Seating will be assigned on a first-registered, first-served basis.

  2. Many reenactors are needed to swell the ranks of the “Citizens of Boston” outside Old South to create the colonial atmosphere, and then join the debate.

  3. All reenactors should be willing to brush up on the background history of the Boston Tea Party, talk with the public and cheer on the events.

  4. All reenactors will be asked to follow authentic standards for clothing. Participants are required to dress in authentic/appropriate clothing for the 1770’s period for Eastern Massachusetts. Western frontier and native dress are not acceptable; this includes hunting shirts with fringe, beads, and a general “buckskin” appearance. No anachronisms such as: cameras, cigarettes, plastic items, wrist watches, non-period glasses or sunglasses, etc. will be used in sight of any spectator during the reenactment.

  5. No muskets, swords or weapons of any type can be worn or carried.

How to register as a reenactor

All reenactors who would like to depict “Citizens of Boston” as part of the Annual Boston Tea Party Reenactment - either within Old South or outside - must pre-register to take part in this event. Your approved registration will give you status as a volunteer for the day for Boston National Historic Park.

To pre-register please send an e-mail to the education department. In the subject line of the e-mail write “Tea Party Reenactor”. In the body of the e-mail write your name, any unit affiliation, your phone # and your e-mail address. You will then receive further information about volunteering as part of the Annual Boston Tea Party.

Thank you for your interest in the Annual Boston Tea Party Reenactment!
