For Members Only! Tour of
Boston's African Meeting House-
Come on a special tour of the recently
reopened African Meeting House, the crown
jewel of the Museum of African American
History, now meticulously restored to its
appearance at the height of the antislavery
movement. Built in 1806 by primarily free
black artisans, the African Meeting House is
the oldest extant African American church
building in the nation. For over 200 years,
the building served as a gather place and
organizing center--church, school, meeting
place and synagogue--where activism took
many forms. You will discover the compelling
stories of people such as Frederick
Douglass, Maria Stewart and William Lloyd
Garrison who made history at this beautiful
Boston landmark. $5 each for
OSMH Members and one guest.
Advance registration and payment are
required. To register, or to learn about
membership, please call (617) 482-6439 ext.

Filene's:
Boston's Great Specialty Store
Co-sponsored by the Boston Preservation
Alliance
Some may know the 1912 building facade in
Downtown Crossing as one of only three
structures left in New England designed by
famed American architect Daniel Burnham, but
most Bostonians affectionately recognize the
building as the flagship Filene's specialty
store. Join us for an illustrated lecture by
author Michael Lisicky to hear highlights of
his research on Filene's, the revolutionary
store that brought fashion and theater to
generations of Bostonians. Come learn the
remarkable history of how the Filene
brothers revolutionized the American retail
industry! Free and Open to the Public
