Each year, our Citizens of Boston crew help us create a colonial atmosphere at Old South Meeting House, a beautifully restored National Historic Landmark. Portraying Boston’s everyday citizens, our volunteer interpreters help to transport our guests back in time to a tense meeting in 1773 in a town on the eve of rebellion.
Interpretation of this kind is invaluable to our program. The Citizens of Boston are expected to have a thorough understanding of the time period, particularly to this region and to the events leading up to the Boston Tea Party.
The Citizens of Boston are expected to follow authentic standards for 18th century Eastern Massachusetts clothing. No weapons of any kind are allowed. Guidelines for attire and recommendations for additional historical resources will be provided in the confirmation packet.
Citizens of Boston Crew duties include: portraying 18th century colonists, interacting with attendees inside and outside prior to the fiery tea tax debate, and participating in the debate inside the hall. As a volunteer reenactor at the Annual Boston Tea Party Reenactment, you will help to make history come alive for visitors from all over the world.
Due to overwhelming interest, space is limited on the Citizens of Boston Crew. ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST PRE-REGISTER*. Preference will be given to those who have previously volunteered. All levels of experience are welcomed! A great opportunity for families!
