Description
To celebrate Phillis Wheatley Day, we’re following her path through the city. Boston By Foot’s brand new tour, Phillis Wheatley: Freedom and Slavery in Revolutionary Boston, follows Wheatley’s life in Boston and paints a picture of the city during her lifetime. In the two dozen years from when she first arrived in Colonial Boston until her death in 1784 Wheatley lived a remarkable life, cycling through states of freedom and unfreedom. She published dozens of poems, toured London, was emancipated, was almost forced into an unwanted marriage, and eventually died in poverty. This tour will use Wheatley’s incredible life as a window into the world of slavery and unfreedom in Revolutionary Era Boston.
Tickets are $12 for members and their guests. To reserve your place, please email [email protected] or call (617) 482-6439 ext. 23.
